TutorMate gets smarter: mastery tracking and seven new ways to learn
A major update to TutorMate introduces per-topic mastery tracking, misconception detection, and seven distinct interaction modes so every learner can study the way that suits them best.
TutorMate's latest update is its biggest learning-experience overhaul yet. Students can now choose from seven interaction modes — Teach Me, Quiz Me, Hint, Apply It, Show Your Thinking, Writing Workshop, and Roleplay — so the tutor adapts to how they actually want to learn in the moment, not a one-size-fits-all script.
Underneath, a new mastery engine tracks understanding topic by topic and goes beyond simple right-or-wrong scoring: it detects common misconceptions and explains why an answer is wrong, not just that it is. Hints are now server-enforced with a three-level progression, nudging students toward the answer without letting them skip the thinking.
The experience itself adapts by age band — from K-2 through 9-12 — with completely different UI, vocabulary, and pacing for each group. And every topic is mapped to Common Core, NGSS, and state standards, so progress lines up with what classrooms are actually teaching.
Parents and teachers get more visibility too: parent portals now surface progress reports and content controls, while teachers can train custom tutors and lean on an AI co-pilot for planning and grading.
